I am a birth and postpartum doula in the Twin Cities. I have been attending births for almost six years. I believe that labor and birth work best when the mother and baby are not medicated. Women need people around them to believe that they can give birth. One of my jobs as a doula is to help women uncover the instinct that is already lying dormant within them. If women were supported from the time they were children, it would be a strength that all women would possess. Unfortunately in this culture, we are not encouraged to birth as nature intended. I think that needs to change,and that starts with birth!

All four of my birth experiences have been unique and have included hospital birth, homebirth and waterbirth. If you hire me as your doula, I come to 2-3 prenatal visits where we discuss your plans for your labor and birth. We go over comfort measures, interventions and medications if you are planning hospital birth, and nutrition. We also talk about the natural rhythm of labor, your postpartum plans and breastfeeding. When you are in labor, I meet you at home, and we labor at home until you are ready to go. I stay with you until your baby is born and breastfeeding has been established. I come to 2-3 postpartum visits where we go over everything from the birth to how breastfeeding is going. I bring a organic sitz bath as well as organic Mother's Milk tea during your early postpartum days.

I believe that birth works. It is an incredibly humbling experience to be a part of the journey that a woman takes, where she transforms from woman to mother.
